Now & Then Dance Studios does it all on the dance floor. Bring yourself and a friend and learn some new tricks. The studio's teaching method is based on a combination of one-on-one instruction, group practice and supervised party practice sessions.
Offering decades of experience, the staff starts with a consultation to determine would-be dancers' goals and expectations. Then the fun starts. The classes are designed to maximize the basics and begin with the instructor teaching the patterns and music to a small group of students. Next, the students work on perfecting their style with a partner. The instructor is able to work with the couples individually. The focus is on one-on-one instruction with an emphasis on leading and following, technique and specific elements that require personal attention. Meanwhile, the other students have an opportunity to work on their steps.
At the end of the class, the students refine what they've learned in practice dance sessions and exchange partners. This is more than just practice; it's an opportunity to learn about the confidence, fun and social aspects involved with dancing.
The classes run the gamut of styles and fads throughout the decades. There's traditional ballroom, waltz and night club dancing for basics. Other classes teach the steps that heated up the musical eras: Latin, fox trot, swing, rumba, cha-cha, tango, mambo, disco, swing and salsa.
Private instruction is also offered to provide the personalized instruction necessary to become a great dancer. Now & Then Dance Studios has facilities in Rockville, Silver Spring and Falls Church.
Patricia Kelbaugh Dance Studio offers a variety of dance courses for different ages and abilities. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes can be taken in ballet, tap and jazz. Pointe and hip hop classes are also available.
Jean Kettell Studio of Dance was founded by former Rockette, Jean Kettell in 1953. Classes in ballet, pointe, tap and jazz are offered to students aged three years through adult.
Joy of Motion Dance Center is a nonprofit arts organization that offers dance classes and workshops to children and adults. The organization has locations in Bethesda and Washington, D.C. Programs offered include introduction classes, group dance classes for couples and singles, Zumba, dance workouts, tap, belly dancing, hip hop, modern, ballet, tango, salsa and classes tailored to pre-schoolers. Dance companies and ensembles and intensive and advanced dance classes and programs are available.
