Founded in 1927, United Salt Corporation is a privately owned manufacturer of salt products used primarily in food products, chemical processing, oil field drilling and production fluids, deicing, hide curing, agricultural feeding, commercial and residential water softening and for chlorine generation in swimming pools. The company s production facilities include an evaporated salt plant in the Houston area, where solution-mined brine water from an underground salt dome is produced for evaporated salt products and a rock salt mine in Hockley, Texas, where the salt is mined from an underground salt dome to create its rock salt products. The company also operates a solar salt facility near Carlsbad, N.M., where salt is harvested off a salt lake to produce its solar salt products. United Salt Corporation maintains its corporate offices in Houston.
