Nassau Lionel Operating Engineers (NLOE) is a model train club based in Levittown. This organization has been in the community for more than 20 years, and it is open to new members who are interested in trains and model train building. Before moving to its new location, NLOE housed one of the largest O-Gauge model railroads in the nation, and now has built a new model twice the size of the original. Create Your Dreams is a youth-oriented, non-profit organization in the historic King Plow community of Midtown. Create Your Dreams aims to assist underprivileged public school students with achieving a high school diploma through various after school programs, tutoring, field trips and college preparation programs. The organization's space features computers, art space, couches and a kitchen.
This LGBT community center offers mental health services, HIV counseling, sensitivity training for therapists, a variety of peer support groups and a youth leadership program. It offers a full-time staff as well as a dedicated and professional group of volunteers. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Donations are always welcome.
The American Legion Dewitt C. Mitchell Post 201 is a branch of the largest veterans organization in the nation. The Legion aims to carry out its mission, as per its website, of "mentoring and sponsoring youth programs in the community, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans," in Lemon Grove.
Some of the many services it provides includes the creation of the Child Welfare Fund, the foundation and operation of the American Legion baseball league, the operation of the Heroes to Hometowns program, offering students scholarships, a family support network, POW/MIA advocacy and flag advocacy.
