Art Academy founder James Robinson and Co-Director Sarah Howard have served the Minneapolis & St. Paul area for over 24 years as artists and instructors. Along with their staff, they have helped turn thousands of students into confident, skilled artists. The school has been featured in The Artists Magazine, has won the Best of the Twin Cities Award from City Pages, and has been named one of the Best Places for Kids Summer Activities by WCCO - CBS Minnesota. The Art Academy was established upon a simple and revolutionary philosophy: All instructors believe that with time, proper instruction, and encouragement, anyone has the ability to learn to draw and paint exceptionally well. Therefore, the mission of the school is consistent: Teachers work to provide excellent long-term art education for beginning to advanced children, tweens, teens and adults. The school offers basic to advanced traditional classes in drawing, painting, anatomy, illustration, sculpture and origami, which are designed to teach in-depth principles of art with the purpose of expanding each individuals knowledge of form, color, and design. Art Academy instruction always stresses practice over talent. When the schools unique, patented teaching methods are combined with a students best efforts an amazing thing happens: a wealth of hidden artistic potential is released. Students then acquire skills to become fully expressive artists. Dramatic improvements in the ability, confidence, and creativity of our students are assured because of the schools very positive, structured program.Call today for more information on classes and sign up at 651-699-1573!

Cadenza Music has been in the same neighborhood since 1974, when we purchased "Harry Blons Music Center." Since then Cadenza Music has expanded twice, moved down the block, added a repair shop, and added more teaching studios. Weve sold music, guitars, band and orchestra instruments, repaired them, and taught both children and adults to play them. One of the nicest features of Cadenza Music is the sense of community between the staff and the customers. Part time saxophonist, full time humorist, and long time Cadenza customer Elmer Pierre says, "If you cant have a fun conversation with a staff member theres sure to be a customer in the store who knows something about a topic youre interested in, or better yet, some tasteless jokes." Being involved in the school music business means that we are advocates for music education. From the early 1980s when we attended our first school board meeting, to speak against a plan to cut school music, to an advocacy report we wrote in 2002 showing how the useful life of school owned instruments could be extended, to 2009 when we suggested cost savings a district could make to save elementary band, we continue to do all that we can to make music education available and affordable for students in the Twin Cities. Star Tribune, March 6, 2009 We believe in "music for everyone, " a philosophy I learned from an employer of mine who used to say "anything worth doing is worth doing badly." He would then go on to point out that he loved to play the piano even though he wasnt very good at it. Dorothy, who started the store with me, often says that we should take the arts back from the artists. Not everybody needs to be a professional! Making music is fun, helps the young brain grow more flexible, and keeps the older brain healthy. Check out the research from National Association of Music Merchants
