Bryan Texas Utilities provides electric service to more than 45,000 customers in Brazos, Robertson and Burleson counties in Texas. A primary customer is Texas A&M University, located in College Station, Texas. BTU owns and operates two natural gas-fired power plants in the Bryan, Texas, area. The Dansby Power Plant, located north of Bryan, has two units with a total capacity of 158 MW. The Atkins Power Plant, located near downtown Bryan, has five units with a total capacity of 129 MW. BTU is also a partner in the Texas Municipal Power Agency, which owns the coal-fired, Gibbons Creek generating station in Carlos, Texas. All of these generating assets are used to supplement BTU customer s power needs, along with economic purchases from other participants in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas power market. BTU was established in 1909 as a municipal electric utility that served customers in Bryan.
