Established in 1966, The Atlanta Braves is a major league baseball team based in Atlanta. Providing both summer and off-season fun for the community's youth since 1969, Powder Springs Youth Baseball has been a staple of the historic Powder Springs community for as long as many children and adults can remember. The park that houses the league's games is also a great place for running and exercise. Along with how to play baseball, the league teaches children the age-old lessons of teamwork, sportmanship and leadership.

School children run through Oakland City Park, squirrels chase each other up a tree and a couple play with their infant children on the playground on a warm Thursday afternoon.

The park on Oakland Drive, within walking distance from Oakland City train station, has all the traditional features of a community park complete with fields for basketball, baseball and softball, a pool (which is opened in the Summer) a pavilion and picnic areas.

No glass containers, sales of goods or illegal substances are allowed on the ball fields or near the pool area. See the posted rules for each field for a more detailed listing.

During the Summer, swim classes are offered Wednesday to Friday and the swimming pool is opened to the public on the same days at different hours. For more information about the pool schedule, call 404-817-6778.

The park also has a recreation center, a pavilion that can hold about 100 people and three picnic shelters each holding about 30 people.

The city's Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs maintains the site.

The multi-purpose building serves as the headquarters for the Barrow County parks and recreation department. It was opened in 2001 and is adjacent to the county's Victor Lord Park.
