Lexington Medical Center Extended Care is one of the largest nursing facilities in South Carolina. The facility is part of Lexington Medical Center, a more than 340-bed metropolitan medical complex that has a countywide health care network. That network includes six community medical centers at strategic locations throughout Lexington County, S.C., one of the largest extended care facilities in the state, an occupational health center and affiliated physician practices. The community centers offer a range of outpatient services. The Recreation and Aging Commission is designed to help youth and the elderly take advantage of recreational opportunities in the county. The commission sponsors sports such as baseball, youth and adult softball, youth soccer, basketball, volleyball and racquetball. The commission manages sports complexes throughout the county, as well as leisure centers that offer access to weight rooms, racquetball courts and gymnasiums. For older residents the commission operates Senior Centers in Batesburg-Leesville, Gilbert, Lexington, Pelion, Pine Ridge, Swansea and West Columbia. It also offers older residents sports leagues, singing programs, pageants and field trips.
