The East End Academy is a therapeutic day school program certified by the Virginia Department of Education to operate a school for the emotionally disturbed individuals. Its programs are designed to meet the developmental, academic, social and emotional needs of students in kindergarten through grade 12. The East End Academy provides special education for learning-disabled and behaviorally disordered children between the ages of 5 and 12 in the Elementary Education Program. In addition, it offers supported vocational education for adolescents between the ages of 13 and 21 who have emotional problems that interfere with concentration and ability to learn. The academy provides therapeutic summer enrichment programs that incorporate individualized education instruction, recreational services and group counseling for children and adolescents between the age group of 7 and 15. The East End Academy is located in Newport News, Va.
