The Shepherd Center is a group of volunteers that helps elderly residents keep their independence. The center is part of a nationwide network of 75 centers. The services offered include: transportation to and from medical appointments, help with shopping, record-keeping, and small home repairs. The center has a small office at Trinity United Methodist Church in McLean.
Langley High School draws its students from the most expensive neighborhoods in McLean and Great Falls. More than 95 percent of the students attend four-year colleges. Langley opened in 1965. Advance placement classes are offered in a variety courses from math to foreign languages. The school has exchange programs with schools in Russia, Germany and Oxford University.
The Tuckahoe Recreation Club is a large facility with four pools (one indoor and three outdoor), six tennis courts, miniature golf, cardio and strength training equipment, sauna, whirlpool, steam room and a snack bar. Yoga classes, water aerobics classes, swim lessons (for six months and older) and tennis lessons are available for members and non-members.
Although year-round memberships are all taken with a waiting list of at least one year, winter memberships are available.
The Westgate Child Center is a daycare center located in the Lewinsville Center. It cares for children ranging in age from toddler to elementary school. Westgate has a special program with Kent Gardens Elementary, whose students can be driven by school bus to the facility for after-school care. Westgate Child Center is a lively place with brightly colored classrooms.
