Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania ( LASP ) is a non-profit Pennsylvania corporation committed to delivering high quality civil legal services to low-income people, victims of domestic abuse and the elderly living in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. It was created in January 1, 2001 to take over the operations of the four former legal services programs in each of those four counties: Bucks County Legal Aid Society, Montgomery County Legal Aid Service, Legal Aid of Chester County and Delaware County Legal Assistance Association. LASP Services LASP provides legal services typically in the areas of landlord/tenant disputes, public housing, utilities, consumer problems including foreclosures and sheriffs sales, bankruptcy, denial or termination of government benefits such as welfare, Social Security and unemployment compensation, protection from abuse, custody, child dependency, divorce, license suspension and elder law issues. While most of these kinds of cases are handled in all locations, there are currently some differences between counties in the kinds of services provided. The services rendered in these areas can consist of information and advice, drafting of legal documents, and negotiation and representation in administrative and judicial proceedings. LASP also engages in community legal education ( see the Community Education page ) through talks and presentations to client and social service staff groups, accompanied by the compilation and distribution of brochures and other written materials on a wide variety of civil legal issues. In order to make LASP services easily accessible for the public and potential clients, LASP operates a toll-free telephone Helpline for residents of the four county region. Helpline staff determine the eligibility of the caller for services, provide information and advice in response to caller questions and concerns, direct them to to the local office for extended representation if needed, and/or refer callers to other agencies and organizations for help if appropriate. For more information about accessing LASP services, see the Get Legal Help page. LASP is funded with a combination of public and private grants and donations. This includes federal funding from Legal Services Corporation, state money from the PA Department of Public Welfare, grants from the Interest on Lawyers Trust Account program, monies from three United Way organizations, contributions from private attorneys and bar associations in all four counties, contracts with area agencies on aging and money from private foundations in the region. View the Our Funders page for a partial and continually updated list of LASPs major funders. In addition, Pro Bono programs operating in all four counties are avenues through which private attorneys willing to donate their time advise and represent low-income clients, victims of domestic abuse and the elderly. See the How You Can Help page for more information on giving to and volunteering with LASP.

We are a volunteer organization made up of caring people. Our members serve in various roles. Most of our volunteers are fire fighters, but others are special fire police, and some serve in administrative positions. Our members come from many diverse backgrounds with one common desire, to help others. In 2007, a joint effort between the fire company and the township yielded two paid firefighters. The township hired a Deputy Fire Marshal and a Code Enforcement officer. Both of these individuals have the added responsibility to respond as drivers/firefighters for the fire company on weekdays. This is the time of day when most of our volunteers are at work and are not able to respond. The new employees supplement the few volunteers that are able to respond on weekdays. Evenings and weekends continue to be all volunteer. We operate out of two stations, which help give us a quicker response to all parts of the township. There are several vehicles: 2 engines, 1 quint (ladder/engine), 1 ladder-tower, 1 squad (rescue/engine), a foam extinguishment trailer, a structural/trench collapse trailer, a utility vehicle to tow the trailers, 1 light/air truck, a fire police van, and a command vehicle. We also house one of the countys hazardous materials response support trailers. The company has weekly training to keep our skills honed. Our fire fighters and special fire police take training classes for fire fighting, rescue, traffic safety, hazardous materials, and first aid. Norriton Fire Engine Company has been recognized by the Fire Commissioners Office of Pennsylvania for our firefighters being trained and certified for fire fighting. Our members not only have the basic training, but strive to obtain higher levels of training. All on a volunteer basis. We have members certified both at the state and national levels for Fire Fighting I & II, Fire Officer I & II, Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, Haz Mat Operations and Technician, and Fire Instructor I & II. Besides the county Fire Academy, our members receive training from the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy, National Fire Academy, PA Dept and Federal Emergency Management Agencies, PA Dept. of Conservation & Natural Resources, PA Fish & Boat Commission, and many more agencies. Our members go the extra mile, literally sometimes, for training. We have traveled all over Pennsylvania for training, as well as New Jersey, Indiana, Maryland, and even Nevada. We realize that training never stops. Most of our more experienced members give back to the fire service by assisting and training others. This is within the fire company, but also includes several members who are also county and state instructors for a variety of fire and rescue courses.
