Eagle-Hill Southport, which opened in 1985 in a building that formerly housed Pequot School, a public elementary school, is a school designed for bright, capable students who are experiencing academic difficulties because of a specific learning disability. The school is designed to offer these children a chance to develop a foundation of academic competence, enhance their self esteem and interact successfully with their peers.
Eagle-Hill Southport is in a building owned by the Southport Conservancy, a neighborhood group, and the school has students from 22 communities, with Darien, Fairfield, New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton having the largest representation.
Tuition in 2009-10 is $38,350, and financial aid is available.
Pequot School closed in 1972.
Since opening its doors in 1930, Mooreland Hill School, an independent private day school, has taught students from all over the state in Kindergarten through Grade 9. The Mooreland facility includes a gymnasium, performing arts center and multiple playing fields, including soccer, baseball and softball.
The Nature Conservancy is a worldwide organization that seeks to preserve nature throughout the world. A chapter of the conservancy is located right in the heart of Devil's Den, which the organization says is the largest tract of undeveloped land in Fairfield County.
The South Windsor Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of local businesses and community enhancement. In addition to providing an online directory of member businesses, it also offers a variety of benefits and resources for members that include insurance programs, business counseling, seminars and networking opportunities.
Friends of Animals is a non-profit, international animal advocacy organization headquartered in Darien. The primary goal of the organization is to free animals from cruelty and institutionalized exploitation.
All projects and services are entirely supported by membership contributions, bequests and grants.
