Gary was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and started in the jewelry field as a teenager. Originally he worked out of Saturday market primarily doing repairs and selling silver jewelry. He also studied music, art, design, and jewelry production at Portland State University. Then, in 1973 opened "The Silver Hammer" on 10th and Taylor, which is where he stayed until 1988. At that time he moved to his previous location at 840 SW Broadway and changed the store name to "Gary Swank Jewelers". In 2009 the store moved down the street to 1309 SW Broadway, where we are currently located. Although the shop is a well-known business it is kept small, friendly and personal. Over time he has developed working relations with his clients and has created jewelry for important moments and exciting occasions. All the pieces created in our shop have our signature stamp -GS-.
