Bayfield Electric Cooperative was formed by a group of rural pioneers in 1945. Bayfield provides services in the areas of Ashland, Bayfield, Douglas, Sawyer and Vilas counties in Wisconsin and Gogebic, Mich. Operated on a nonprofit basis, the cooperative has more than 8,200 members and installed over 1,850-miles of distribution line. It purchases power from Dairyland Power Cooperative and serves more than 25 million people throughout the United States. Bayfield Electric Cooperative has a variety of load management programs, such as electric thermal storage, slab heat, electric heat, ground water heat pumps, controlled water heaters, free insulation jacket for controlled water heaters and cash incentives. Headquartered in Iron River, Wis., it also has a branch office in High Bridge, Wis.
