Dollar Tree Stores is one of the largest dollar discount variety store chains in the United States. The first Dollar Tree store opened in Dalton, Ga., in 1986. The company has expanded to nearly 3,000 stores in 48 states. The stores are stocked with a variety of gift bags, party supplies, housewares, seasonal decor, candy and food, toys, health and beauty care, gifts, stationery, books, and consumer items, with everything priced at $1. The company also operates a coast-to-coast logistics network of nine distribution centers. Dollar Tree Stores became a public company in 1995. It has its headquarters in Chesapeake, Va.
