Mercer University's Douglas County Regional Academic Center provides hundreds of working adults the opportunity to earn degrees from three of the university's divisions: the Stetson School of Business and Economics, the Tift College of Education and the College of Continuing and Professional Studies. With its main campus in Macon and several other satellite throughout Georgia, Mercer has more than 1,600 faculty and staff members and 65,000 alumni. The college was founded in 1833.
Smart Kids is a childcare and learning center for mentally-challenged children. The experienced staff works with students to build vocabulary, encourage imagination and offer personalized learning. The school uses the High Reach 4-step learning program. Classes coincide with the traditional school schedule; special summer programs are also available.
Located across the street from Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School, Sweetwater Elementary is headed by Principal Teresa Martin. The school promotes the arts by offering instruction in art and music. It also has an active Parent-Teacher Association.
A large facility situated on East County Line Road across from Sweetwater Elementary School, Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School offers a seemingly never-ending amount of activities for before, during and after school. Its creation stems from overcrowding at Douglas County High School, which was the only high school in the county prior to Lithia Springs Comprehensive High School's opening. It first welcomed students in 1975.
KnowledgePoints offers tutoring services in math, reading and writing. It also offers ACT and SAT preparation. Convenient after-school hours are part of the regular schedule.
Turner Middle School is on Junior High Drive, across the street from the Lithia Springs Public Library and down the road from Lithia Springs Elementary School. Principal Eric Collins has been on the school's administrative staff for three years. Before that, he worked at Lithia Springs Elementary for three years and at Steward Middle School for two.
Lithia Springs High School is a public high school teaching grades 9 - 12. In addition to having a curriculum that teaches general subjects such as English, mathematics, foreign languages, sciences and computer instruction, the school offers programs and instruction in the fine arts, including chorus, band and visual arts at the school's own theatre company. Other programs include the school newspaper and a variety of clubs and organizations, including Astronomy Society, Art Club, French Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Key Club, Poetry Club and National Honor Society. The school is also active in sports, with basketball, baseball, football, cross country, soccer, swimming, tennis, softball, volleyball, track, golf and cheerleading squads.
