Founded in 1905, Sons of Italy was created to unite early Italian immigrants looking to help each other in times of need. Today, the national organization has about 26 million members; both men and women of Italian and other heritages. The organization offers college scholarships and promotes Italian culture, tradition and language. The Sewickley location, named after Italian writer Nicola Misasi, is a longtime fixture on Division Street, and a social outlet for the town's Italian-American community.
