The Arthur Ashe Children s Program serves approximately 550 at-risk children in grades three through eight at more than 20 schools in Wards 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Washington DC. Children participate in after-school programming four days per week throughout the school year in a curriculum combining tennis, literacy and life-skills lessons. At the junior high school level, AACP participants also explore career options, attend educational planning workshops and participate in community service. The program has received several accolades including USTA/Mid-Atlantic Section Community Program of the Year.
